How to Use Your Medical Aid at USMC: A Step-by-Step Guide
To ensure a seamless experience, please follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Obtain Pre-Authorization (Crucial for Procedures)
Before any planned surgery or significant procedure, you must contact your insurance provider to obtain a pre-authorization document. This confirms that your plan covers the specific treatment. Failing to do so may result in your claim being denied.
Step 2: Inform Our Team When Booking
When you call to schedule your appointment, please let our reception staff know which medical aid scheme you are with.
Step 3: Bring Your Documentation
On the day of your appointment, please bring:
A valid membership card for your medical aid scheme.
Your pre-authorization document (if applicable).
Your personal identification (National ID, driver’s license).
Step 4: At the Clinic
Our administration team will use your information to process the direct billing claim with your insurer. We will clearly communicate with you about any co-payments or shortfalls that may be your responsibility.
Understanding Key Insurance Terms
Pre-Authorization: An approval from your insurer before you receive care, confirming that the service is covered under your plan.
Co-payment: A fixed amount or percentage of the cost of a service that you are required to pay out-of-pocket, as determined by your insurance policy.
Shortfall: The portion of the medical bill that is not covered by your insurance plan, which the patient is responsible for paying. Our team will inform you of any expected shortfalls.
For Our Self-Paying Patients
If your insurer is not listed or if you do not have medical aid, you are still warmly welcomed at USMC. We are committed to price transparency and can provide you with a detailed estimate for our services upon request. Please contact our administration office for information on direct payment options.
